Now think, is your future going to be about the lifestyle you want to have, or the one you will have?
You qualify your first step to being an entrepreneur by dreaming, thinking of the problem you want to focus on, and planning out a map of your future. Is it that simple? The beginning may seem like a simple process, but it may not be. It is the most important part of the work.
Great companies have been built by innovators who saw a problem (an opportunity!), where they could put together a qualified solution. They marketed it to the right customers, and succeeded. How do you reach the right customers? That's the challenge!
What can you do to really get started?
- Think of a problem, and connect it to your passion.
- Look ahead into the future, and talk about it with colleagues, experts, etc. in order to scope your markets well. It will also effectively make sure you're reaching the right markets.
- Don't try to be like anyone else. Plan and administrate your own success, use your gut feeling and just go for it!
- Do the leg work about getting the word out, develop a prototype...put the time in now! Not later...or when you get employees/contractors. What if you can't hire anyone? Think and decide, and execute a plan to try to do as much work yourself as possible till you get the people you need.
- Once you have some good development in motion, it's time to gain a few people...so hire someone. Need funding? Submit your business plan to investors, venture capitalists, etc. Get the word out there! Don't wait too late to get funding. Your markets are waiting for your product(s).
Your idea becomes valuable when customers are willing to pay for it. Don't think that just because you have a great potential idea, it means it will take off right away. Expect the worst at first, since 1 in 12 startups succeed (apparently). But, don't let it intimidate you. Instead, develop products according to what the customer wants. Keep trying, don't quit. You fall down, get back up.
Trust yourself, you're important, you can do it. Just work and create what customers want. Keep going. How did 409 household cleaner get developed? After 408 previous attempts.
How about trying over 300 some times to get a bank loan, being turned down...Starbucks is now one of the most innovative companies. These are from people who chose not to give up on their idea, even while being told NO. Just because you "fail", doesn't mean that you cannot continue. You're not a true failure until you decide to stay down. DON'T STAY DOWN, EVER! Get right back up every time!
Does this convince you? Feel free to comment as necessary. I'll try to answer what I can. :)
