10 Ways to be a Smarter, More Productive Worker

I think this is quite something to be fond of, is to be smarter and more productive. People ask me how I am able to do so much work in one day, or do this type of stuff all the time. I tell them I get it from my mother's side of the family. It's not that we're workaholics, it's just that work comes naturally.

Maybe, you're one of those that work comes naturally, for others, they need to have the right tools. One of the best tools in working smart, or productive, is your brain. So, that's my aim today, is to empower your brain to work smarter, more independent, and more productive. This in turn will guide you along the track to make more money, get that promotion, have better family life, and have an all-around better outlook for life.

See the top ten...
  1. Set up your priorities right from the start!

When you have your priorities in place, you know exactly what needs done first, and so on and so forth. What's really important should always go first, especially if that's where the money's at.

Make choices about the activities in what you do. Most endeavors either go deep or they go wide. Rarely, do they shoot up or down. Focus on the productive items, the ones that are more critical. You'll not be sorry for not getting it done. Because, once you finish it, you'll feel even more accomplished!
  2. Be your own argument

What can people do? They can argue with you. It's tough arguing with people sometimes. But, what about if you argue with yourself? Just make up your mind a lot faster if you argue with yourself. It'll make your realize whether or not an idea is worth it. I'm sure it's best to let yourself know what's right & wrong, rather than have someone else tell you, right? So, implement this method!
  3. Integrate/weave your activities together

Many people usually go about their days worrying about how to manage their time, even I do. But, if you weave some of those activities together, you might be more successful in time management. Enjoying all of them in a combined manner, although hard at first, will make it much easier and less stressful for you in the future.

Develop your career around the people and/or activities you love.
  4. Be efficient!

How do you manage everything? Do it efficiently. What does that mean? Do the things that you do well more than the things you don't do so well. If you get assigned to a project that you know how to do well, your boss knew you were right for it. But, what if you receive a project that may be problematic and super stressful, or one that you aren't knowledgeable about? Discuss it with your boss. See if there are ways to change to a different project, or discover ways or people that can make the project easier.
  5. Quiet the inner commentary

Is there a little voice talking in your head while you're trying to listen to someone? Quiet down or suppress that as much as possible! This commentary will keep you from listening efficiently, openly, and independently. You need to have an independent mind.

Also, don't have other motives. When your boss assigns something for you, don't have another plan in mind. Go with the plan that pays you. Because, most of the time, that's why their the boss.
  6. Act curious all the time

There are ways to naturally be curious, but some people just don't know how. But, no matter what you might think, being curious is beneficial. Next time you're listening to someone, or being lectured - write down three or more questions that you can research later. You can ask the other person these questions at a later time. These questions (and eventually the answers) will help encode significant concepts into your brain to help you understand better. (Don't believe that you're a cat either.)
  7. Find the truth in the message and aim to understand it better

Sometimes a bunch of junk talk (or fluff) is not what we need to get our job done. So, if you're confused with the talk of somebody, ask questions for clarification. Separate the material from the provider, so to speak. This'll help make your listening skills more efficient as well!
  8. Deal with time-wasters

It's a good idea to filter out the time-wasters in your life. Social media, friends, and family are especially a problem if you work at home. Or, at work, some employees, preferably the class-clown type, are the ones that need to be told to get back to work. Avoid the distracting curves to your day. Use your time appropriately, and limit non-supportive interactions until it's either time for a break, or when you get off. There's nothing worse than getting off-track when you're working on a major project/presentation.
  9. Learn actively

As mentioned before, listening and asking questions will help. But, also, just like writing down those questions, also take some notes. This helps brush up on the material at a later time, despite whether you think it's important or not. There's not much more worse than dealing with lost project details.
  10. Relax

When it comes to doing your work, do it correctly and efficiently. If you don't complete it all at one time, don't beat yourself up over it. Just relax! Once you lighten up, the focus will be much better, and in the end - you'll get more work done.

Hopefully these tips have helped you realize how beneficial working productively and smartly is. Good luck in implementing!
